    Currumbin development called in: Fraser

Local Government, Planning and Sport Minister Andrew Fraser has today called in a development proposal involving 530 lots and an artificial lake system at Currumbin on the Gold Coast.

Mr Fraser used his powers under the Integrated Planning Act 1997 to call in the application and will now assess the development application and make a decision.

“This development involves significant state interests and, in my opinion, warrants careful consideration,” Mr Fraser said.

“The application will be re-started at the decision stage of the Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS).

“I will make a decision on whether the application should be approved, approved subject to conditions or refused.”

Devine Limited is the proponent and Co-You Australia Pty Ltd is the applicant for the 530-lot development and adjacent artificial lake proposed for a 148 hectare parcel of land on Currumbin Creek Road, Piggabeen Road and Hoffshildt Drive at Currumbin.

The Gold Coast City Council has received a petition with 201 signatures and 206 submissions from concerned residents, predominantly in the Currumbin area, who oppose the development.

The site was zoned “Special Facilities” under the superseded Albert Shire planning scheme, upon which the developer is relying. The area is located outside the South East Queensland Regional Plan’s Urban Footprint.
