PREMIER LAUNCHES CYCLONE RELIEF APPEAL FUND WITH $100,000

The Queensland Government has launched an appeal fund to help the people of Far North Queensland who have been affected by Cyclone Larry.

“I urge everyone to dig deep and help people who have suffered in the devastation wreaked by the cyclone,” said Mr Beattie.

“They can donate to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal Fund at any Commonwealth Bank branch.

“Cabinet decided this morning to launch the fund with a Queensland Government donation of $100,000.

“I thank the Commonwealth Bank for donating $50,000 to the fund and for making its network of branches available to help receive donations.

“Cheques can be made out to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal Fund, with the account number being 064-013-1000-6800.

“Later today people will be able to ring 1800 150 411 with their credit card details. The hotline will be open from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

“I’m sure everyone is saddened by the devastation, suffering and hardship caused in the disaster area.

“The Government will be working with the Federal Government and local councils to repair infrastructure as quickly as possible and the appeal is an effective way to help affected people directly.

“No donation is too small. Every dollar will help victims.”

Mr Beattie said the appeal would remain open for at least three months.

All donations of $2.00 or more to the appeal will be tax deductible.
