Groves Christian College in Kingston will be home to a new state-of-the-art learning centre sooner after the Queensland Government moved to fast-track the new build through a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation.

The formal process, signed off by Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick last month, will streamline approvals and get work pushing ahead.

Mr Dick said this was another example of the Palaszczuk Government supporting the vital delivery of community infrastructure and jobs for Queensland.

“Progressing projects like this is a crucial part of our COVID economic recovery,” he said.

“It will help our construction sector and the Queenslanders employed by it, and once complete will be of huge benefit to Groves Christian College students and staff.

“A new four-storey learning centre will be built at the school, some existing buildings relocated and refurbished, and additional car parks introduced.

“Community consultation has informed this development plan, with works set to begin in the coming months.”

Groves Christian College Principal Vanessa Osborne said the decision will allow the school to educate more young people.

“The new facilities will give us the space to accommodate 186 extra students once construction is complete,” Mrs Osborne said.

“We look forward to growing our school community and providing more young people with the best learning platform to help them achieve great things in the future.”
