The Honourable Cameron Dick

Construction will be fast-tracked at Carseldine Village with an $8.9 million contract to complete civil and electrical works awarded to one of Queensland’s largest family-owned civil contracting company, Shadforth.

Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said the jobs will help to support Queensland families during an incredibly challenging time for the industry and the nation at large.

“Sixty local construction jobs will be supported by this initial work, with another 50 jobs to be created once construction of the new terrace homes in the village begins,” Mr Dick said.

“With everything that’s happening across our country and the world right now, it’s crucial we keep industries that can employ moving forward.

“Shadforth will start working on the village’s 53 terrace lots next month, with the civil and electrical components to be completed later this year.

“My department’s Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) team is continuing to look for more projects like this that we can fast-track to boost employment.”

In addition to the terrace lots, Shadforth will also upgrade three nearby intersections to improve local traffic flow and access to the village.

Shadforth Managing Director Ray Shadforth said the project will help boost Queensland jobs and support economic recovery during these unprecedented times.

“It’s great the Queensland Government is taking steps to underpin our economy with projects like this,” Mr Shadforth said.

“Shadforth is focused on building sustainable communities and community assets, and Carseldine Village will deliver on these attributes and more.”

Member for Aspley Bart Mellish said now more than ever we need jobs for Queenslanders.

“This project is providing jobs for locals and delivering a great place to live for locals,” Mr Mellish said.

Mr Dick said EDQ also conducted an industry-wide EOI process to identify the right builder partners for the village, with Vantage Homes QLD and Thompson Sustainable Homes chosen to help deliver the project.

“Both these builders have extensive expertise delivering well designed, sustainable and affordable terrace homes,” Mr Dick said,

“We’re pleased that jobs are being created, that the industry is continuing to push ahead. This project and others like it will really support our economy right now.”
