Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, Mundingburrra MP Coralee O’Rourke, Townsville MP Scott Stewart, and Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper,  joined Acting Deputy Commissioner Paul Taylor to officially launch the newest asset in the Mundingburra police vehicle fleet today.

The Mundingburra Police Division in the Townsville District is home to numerous parks, shopping centres and a bikeway corridor.

The new Kawasaki Mule All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) will assist officers in continuing their highly visible presence within the community by providing them with a means of transport to quickly and easily access otherwise difficult to reach locations.

The ATV will provide additional flexibility for staff and patrols within the areas of Mundingburra, Pimlico, Aitkenvale, Rosslea, Mysterton, Vincent and Hermit Park.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Taylor said officers were preparing to take advantage of the new asset.

“Local officers are currently undertaking specific training, which will allow them to utilise this specialised vehicle,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Taylor said.

“This new vehicle will allow police to continue their high-visibility approach among the community’s businesses, as well as local public spaces and to continue patrols of vacant shop fronts and land.

“The ATV has been funded through the Queensland Police Service and will assist the officers of Mundingburra to enhance this community’s safety.”

Mundingburra MP Coralee O’Rourke said the new vehicle was a great new asset for the division.

“This new vehicle is going to complement officers in their daily duties, allowing them to continue enhancing community safety and supporting surrounding areas,” Ms O’Rourke said.

Townsville MP Scott Stewart said the new asset would boost capability on the streets and off them.

“I look forward to seeing this new vehicle become a part of everyday patrolling in the Mundingburra area and hope it supports those regularly responding to calls for service, Mr Stewart said.

Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper said delivery of the new vehicle was yet another example of the government’s commitment to Townsville police.

“We are providing police with the resources they need to support community safety,” Mr Harper said.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said it was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s significant commitment and investment in the Townsville region.

“Vehicles like this one and the 53 extra police officers we are delivering by June demonstrate the support we are providing to community safety in Townsville,” Minister Ryan said.
