Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Cameron Dick

The last remaining blocks of land within the 48-lot Woree Business and Industry Park have now sold, as new investment fills the Cairns precinct.

Member for Cairns Michael Healy said the park has proven a catalyst for economic growth in Far North Queensland, creating more jobs in more industries.

“Businesses have been able to come here, build unique facilities, expand their operations and create new employment opportunities for locals,” Mr Healy said.

“It’s great to see the final lots snapped up. The sales highlight the value of the park to our city.”

Followmont Transport are Queensland’s largest family-owned transport company. They purchased four of the final blocks of land in the park and combined them to accommodate their growth in the region.

Project Manager Cassie Eivers said the Woree Business and Industry Park will be a good fit for Followmont Transport as it meets site, location and vehicle access requirements.

“We currently employ 42 full-time staff, including drivers, mechanics, warehouse workers and office staff, and we’re set to grow our team to 50 once operations pick up at the new depot,” Ms Eivers said.

“Construction of our warehouse was completed late December and our first B-Double was loaded out from there 4 January.”

Hooker Boats Managing Director John Margetts moved into Woree Business and Industry Park in 2015 and has benefited from the precinct’s proximity and their new custom facilities.

“Moving to Woree has helped us grow our business, as we’ve been able to streamline our boat production, and improve efficiency and quality for our customers,” Mr Margetts said.

“The Hooker Boats team has since grown to 11, and we’re confident our factory matches the quality of our products, services and professionalism.”
