Demand for space within the COHORT coworking hub has prompted a new push for land sales within the 200-hectare Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Since opening its doors in April, COHORT has become home to around 160 digital health professionals and startup innovators, with occupancy currently sitting at 80 per cent.

Now, 9.5 hectares of state-owned land within the health and knowledge precinct will be marketed domestically and abroad as ‘Lumina’.

Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said Lumina supports the Palaszczuk Government’s long-term vision to build on the legacy of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

“The development of this site over the next 10-to-15 years will ignite and unite businesses,” Mr Dick said.

“Once full, the precinct will support more than 12,000 jobs and generate around $1.4 billion for the Queensland economy.

“Around the world, this type of cluster precinct model has proven a bright spark when it comes to accelerating business collaboration, growth and success.

“The businesses and entrepreneurs who choose Lumina are choosing to leverage the benefits of being co-located with world-leading institutes like Griffith University, who next year will begin construction of their $80 million Advanced Design Manufacturing and Prototyping (ADaPT) facility.”

Lumina is designed to cater for businesses at all stages of development, from startups requiring single desks through to established businesses seeking multiple floors or a bespoke building.

As landowner and master developer, Economic Development Queensland is facilitating the development of Lumina.

Dr Brent Richards, co-founder of IntelliHQ, located at COHORT, welcomed the launch of Lumina and encouraged other health and knowledge businesses and entrepreneurs to get involved in this emerging health and innovation hub.

“Healthcare both wants and needs the continuously improving patient outcomes that will be created from the high-tech revolution,” Dr Richards said.

“That’s why we’re excited to be part of this exciting venture.”
