The Honourable Kate Jones

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones today called on the Leader of the Opposition to investigate allegations that a senior LNP MP travelled to China 14 times recently.

“Deb Frecklington promoted Rob Molhoek to Opposition Whip. She needs to explain - how is it possible for one of her MPs to travel overseas 14 times without her knowing about it?”

“At best, the LNP have a senior Member of Parliament who’d rather spend his time living it up in China than standing up for the Gold Coast.”

Today’s allegations came after it was revealed the LNP’s Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen spent nearly 300 days in the Philippines over a four-year period.

It also comes after LNP Member for Burleigh Michael Hart missed Parliament in September while on holiday in Canada.

“People deserve to know who approved this travel, exactly what Rob was doing in China and whether or not he was using his position as a Member of Parliament inappropriately,” Ms Jones said.

“The Gold Coast has been let down by the current crop of LNP Members of Parliament representing them – it’s only months since Michael Hart went missing in action and skipped a whole sitting of Parliament because he was on holiday in Canada.”
