Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services
The Honourable Mark Ryan

There are more police in Queensland than ever before, and more on the way.

As promised at the 2017 State election, the Palaszczuk Government will deliver an extra 535 police personnel by the end of the 2021/22 financial year.

The latest update provided during the Police Minister’s Estimates hearing, shows 131, or approximately one quarter of those extra police, have already been delivered, and over the next three years the remaining growth numbers will also be delivered.

This is the government’s commitment.

Nothing has changed.

The LNP’s attempt to re-write history is farcical.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said the commitment to deliver extra police will be met by 30 June, 2022, as promised.

“The Police Commissioner says the Queensland Police Service is on track to deliver the growth numbers,” he said.

“Anyone who suggests these commitments won’t be met is wrong.

“Make no mistake, we promised to deliver those extra police and we will.

“Townsville is a great example of the government’s commitment to delivering extra resources.

“Since 2017 an extra 20 police have already been deployed to the Townsville District.

“On top of those growth numbers, Townsville will also receive an extra 53 police officers as part of the Government’s commitment to deliver extra police personnel statewide by 30 June 2022, as promised,“ Minister Ryan said.
