Startub hubs across the state will receive a $1.29 million boost in funding through a program expected to create 17 jobs in regional Queensland.

Innovation Minister Kate Jones said 20 startup hubs across regional Queensland would receive up to $75,000 in funding over three years through the government’s Regional Startup Hubs Support Program.

“We want to support startups to grow so we can create jobs in regional Queensland,” she said.

“These hubs are vital to turning small businesses into larger businesses.

“We’re investing in these centres to make sure every Queensland startup – no matter where they are in our state – have access to the advice and resources they need to scale up.”

Funding will go towards administration support, networking activities, startup weekends and events and education and skills programs to support local startups.

“Through our innovation agenda we’ve created more than 15,000 jobs over the last four years,” she said.

“That’s because we’re investing in innovation and entrepreneurship.

“This is in stark contrast to the LNP who cut millions from Queensland’s science and technology budget when they were in power.”

Manager Marcus McCormick from the Bundaberg Business Enterprise Centre said they were thrilled to received $75,000 in funding over three years.

“With this funding we will employ a Startup Switchboard Facilitator at The Generator co-working space and innovation hub in Bundaberg, making it easier for people to access co-working and business incubator spaces,” Marcus said.

“The Facilitator will provide much needed support for our local startup ecosystem and will co-ordinate regular startup events to connect and grow Bundaberg’s community of innovators and entrepreneurs.

“This will help position The Generator as a front door for any entrepreneurs and startup businesses looking for support and a space to work from.

“The future looks bright for Bundaberg and this funding only strengthens our region as a destination of choice for entrepreneurs and innovators who want to grow global businesses while enjoying the amazing lifestyle that Bundaberg offers”.
