North Burnett communities and visitors are benefitting from $7.8 million of road and tourism product upgrades, supported by the Palaszczuk Government’s successful $295 million Building our Regions (BoR) program.

In the region recently to inspect work on the in-progress $2.5 million Mingo Crossing Caravan Park upgrade and the now open $5.3 million Deep Creek Bridge, Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said BoR was delivering tangible benefits for the region.

“The Mingo Crossing Caravan Park redevelopment is being jointly funded, with matching $1.27 million contributions made by the Palaszczuk Government and North Burnett Regional Council,” Mr Dick said.

“Works underway at Mingo Crossing will enhance facilities for caravaners, campers and day-trippers to meet current and future tourism demands.

“This redevelopment will add another nine powered sites to the existing 12, as well as providing the park’s first six glamping sites, a second amenities block, a camp kitchen, a parking area near the existing boat ramp, and a playground.

“An additional 40 camping sites will also be made available through the development of open space along the north-east bank of the Burnett River.

Meanwhile, drivers travelling between Gayndah and Mundubbera now have safer access thanks to the new Deep Creek Bridge, which received $2.2 million through BoR.

“The two-lane concrete bridge replaced the former single-lane timber bridge, expanding and improving road access on a route that was previously inaccessible for heavier vehicles,” Mr Dick said.

“The new bridge is wider, stronger and more flood resilient, and importantly it provides improved access for regional citrus and livestock producers, and emergency vehicles, which will improve industry and health outcomes for the community.

“In total, 22 projects in the Wide Bay-Burnett have received $37.1 million through our Building our Regions program and collectively supported 399 local jobs.

“This investment has significantly boosted the region’s economy, directly and through the supply chain, creating new opportunities for many local businesses.”

The most recent round of Building our Regions funding has seen the Palaszczuk Government partner with 37 councils on 49 projects – work which will create an estimated 657 jobs.

Of these Round 4 projects, the Wide Bay-Burnett region secured $2.4 million towards improvements to the Cherbourg Material Recovery Facility, River Heads boat ramp and carpark upgrades, and the revitalisation of Maryborough’s CBD, supporting 16.7 jobs.

Under previous rounds, the program has allocated $225 million to 174 critical infrastructure projects across the state, generating 1762 jobs and attracting additional investment of $353.5 million from councils and other organisations.
