The Honourable Mark Bailey

Townsville commuters will soon have access to a new-and-improved bus timetable as well as an online journey planner and 24-hour public transport hotline when the Palaszczuk Government’s TransLink service launches in the city next month.

The rollout will start on May 13, introducing a new timetable connecting 10 key routes with the soon-to-be-complete CBD bus hub, and the first three of 20 new buses with TransLink branding.

Member for Mundingburra Coralee O’Rourke said the initiative complemented the Palaszczuk Government’s $840 million infrastructure commitment for the Townsville Region in 2018/19 and would help to provide locals and visitors with the best service possible.

“For the first time ever, Townsville will be able to use TransLink’s Journey Planner to find the quickest and most convenient journey,” Ms O’Rourke said.

“The TransLink contact centre will also be accessible on 13 12 30, any time, and can provide a wide range of information and assistance to customers.”

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the new timetable would consolidate bus routes through a single location in the CBD, making it easier for locals wanting to connect to another service.

“The new timetable is a win for locals that will deliver improved reliability. It's also a win for our local economy, with the new bus hub and bus routes better connecting our community with businesses in the CBD,” Mr Stewart said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to building on Townsville’s bus network and that’s why we have invested $4 million to help council deliver the new CBD bus hub.”

Member Thuringowa Aaron Harper said the much-anticipated Smart Ticketing system would also be introduced in coming years in line with the state-wide implementation

“Once complete, the $371 million system will include benefits such as access to real-time technology, new readers, quicker fare gates and system equipment, an updated app platform, and new ticketing equipment on urban and regional buses,” Mr Harper said.

Information on the TransLink brand rollout will be available on the TransLink website from 26 April.
