Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, the Honourable Mark Ryan MP joined Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper MP, and Commissioner Ian Stewart for the launch of Townsville District Office and Police Prosecution Corps today.

After 15 years in the Mundingburra Police Complex, the Townsville Police District Office and Police Prosecution Corps have relocated to Walker Street, Townsville.

Minister Ryan said that the relocation will provide necessary office space for District Patrol Inspectors to be housed with the Townsville Police District Officer and Assistant District Officer.

“This is a very exciting development that has been a couple of years in the making,” Minister Ryan said.

Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper said the Townsville policing community had consistently delivered a high level of service.

“We saw in the devastating floods in Townsville what a vital role our police play in the community.

“It pleases me that we can, in some small way, repay that unstinting effort by police by providing them with better facilities,” Mr Harper said.

Commissioner Stewart said the new office places police and prosecutors in the best possible position to respond to and address the needs of the community and courts.

“The relocation of the Townsville Police District Office and Police Prosecutions will allow for a more effective and comfortable working environment,” Commissioner Stewart said.

“The new office is a step forward in carrying on a proud background of policing in the Townsville community.”
