Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services
The Honourable Mark Ryan

Police are hoping the creation of a billboard on the Bruce Highway at Cannonvale will help solve the murder of Jay Brogden in 2007.

Jay Brogden was last seen at Cannonvale on Saturday April 21, 2007. Jay, a father of one was 21 years old at the time of his disappearance.

In 2015 the Coroner ruled Mr Brogden’s death to have been suspicious in nature and following new information being recently provided to police, the investigation into Jay Brogden’s homicide has been renewed.

Detectives from the Homicide Investigation Unit have now joined investigators from Whitsunday CIB to find the answers needed to solve the disappearance and homicide of Mr Brogden.

As part of their strategy, police have designed a billboard at Airlie Beach with Jay Brogden’s image in hopes it will trigger further information from those people police believe know what happened to Mr Brogden.

“New information has been provided to us and because of this, we believe there are more people in the local community with information to provide us and we would advise those persons to come forward to us now with that information,” Detective Inspector Damien Hansen of the Homicide Group said.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said: “Putting a billboard up in the middle of the highway is certainly not one of the usual strategies employed by police, but in this case they believe this could be the key that brings answers to a family who have gone far too long without them.

“We hope this billboard triggers those who know what happened to Jay, or in fact those who played a part in his disappearance to come forward. There is a significant reward of $250,000 on offer for information as well as indemnity for anyone who were involved, but did not commit the murder,” Minister Ryan said.
