The Palaszczuk Government has announced $3.5 million in funding over two years to deliver much needed practical support for the most vulnerable asylum seekers and temporary protection visa holders in Queensland.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the $3.5 million in funding would go to Communify Queensland through the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Assistance program.

“Queensland has a responsibility to support asylum seekers and those in need of protection,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“These much-needed funds will provide individual support for some of the most vulnerable people within our community who face extraordinary life challenges.

“This includes medical transferees and refugees who have been granted a Safe Haven Enterprise Visa or Temporary Protection Visa.

“Communify Queensland has a proven track record in delivering this kind of support through established partnerships and will have the support of like-minded agencies and organisations.

“This funding will ensure asylum seekers and temporary protection visa holders can get the support they need to make a real difference to their lives.”

The Palaszczuk Government has committed $4.3 million over three years, from 2018–19 to 2020–21, to support vulnerable refugees and people seeking asylum.
