Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey

Auchenflower residents and commuters are being invited to take a look at the Palaszczuk Government’s plans for Auchenflower station’s multimillion-dollar accessibility upgrade.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey visited Auchenflower station today with Queensland Rail staff to share the plans with commuters, and encouraged customers and local residents to view the initial concepts and have their say.

“Auchenflower is an important station for the local community, with key connections to the Wesley Hospital and local sporting facilities. Last year, Auchenflower accommodated more than 870,000 passenger trips, however the station is not currently independently accessible for everyone in the community,” Mr Bailey said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to creating accessible public transport for everyone, and this upgrade will turn Auchenflower station into a modern station, ensuring that everyone, including people who use mobility aids, seniors and people with prams and luggage, can travel safely and easily.

“As part of the concepts, upgrades include a new footbridge with lifts, raising the height of platform sections to provide easier access on and off the train and a range of other accessibility features, such as hearing aid loops.

“The project will also provide accessible parking and improved security features, such as upgraded lighting and CCTV, and we are now seeking the community’s feedback to help inform the station’s final design.”

Mr Bailey said in addition to community feedback, Queensland Rail would work closely with its Accessibility Reference Group to ensure the scope of the station upgrade reflects all customers’ needs.

“This project is an important investment for the local community and forms part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $300 million investment to upgrade train stations and improve accessibility across the South East Queensland network,” Mr Bailey said.

“As south east Queensland’s population continues to grow, the Palaszczuk Government is committed to improving the accessibility of south east Queensland stations to ensure all customers can travel without barriers.

“The upgrade will ensure all customers seeking to catch services to and from Auchenflower will have a seamless and independently accessible path of travel throughout the station precinct and equal access to employment, important services and connections to family and friends.

As part of Queensland Rail’s Accessibility Upgrade program, Taringa station is also under consideration, with accessible stations either side of it at Toowong and Indooroopilly, which both provide lift access to the platforms.

“The project will also support more than 250 jobs for contractors and suppliers from the construction industry, including electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, labouring, roofing, glazing and traffic control, which is great news for the local economy.”

Minister Bailey said people could view the concept images on the Queensland Rail website and provide feedback by emailing stationsupgrade@qr.com.au, calling 1800 722 203 or mailing:
