Nominations open to join the Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council

Queenslanders who want to make a difference are being encouraged to nominate for the Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council.

Multicultural Affairs Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said nominations are now open for a number of places on the 11-member Council for a three-year term.

“This is a great chance for Queenslanders from all walks of life, including those from diverse backgrounds, to make a difference,” he said.

“The Council has a very important role in advising me on opportunities and barriers facing people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

“The Council also advises on how to promote the Multicultural Queensland Charter to support a unified, harmonious and inclusive community.

“Being part of the Council is a great opportunity for Queenslanders to make a difference to the lives of new migrants and refugees in this State.

“I really value the vision and advice provided by the current Council and look forward to continuing our work this year.”

The Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council holds regular meetings in Brisbane and regional centres.

Nominations are now open for people to serve on the Council from 1 August 2019 to 31 July 2022.

The role is remunerated and nominations close on 15 March 2019.

Some of the original Council members will be staying on for a second term to provide guidance and ongoing support during the transition.

The new members of the Multicultural Queensland Advisory Council will be announced later this year.
