Momentum is continuing to build for The Oasis Townsville (TOT) project, with registered tenderers for the early works tender meeting with government representatives on the Oonoonba site today (06 December).

Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke said she was pleased with the progress her Department was making with the project and that opportunities were available for Townsville-based building companies to be a part of the development of TOT.

“The TOT advisory committee, including its Chair, retired Lieutenant General Mr John Caligari, are pleased with the progress of this project,” Mrs O’Rourke said.

“The completion and contract documentation is currently being prepared so it can progress to tender early next year.

“Right from the start I’ve worked hard to ensure we get this exciting project right – and can deliver a service that truly responds to the needs of veterans across North Queensland.”

“It’s fantastic to have the advisory committee on board to provide expert advice and leadership, particularly around the future service delivery, along with local builders putting up their hands for the bricks and mortar part.

In addition to providing the land for the centre, the Palaszczuk Government is providing up to $4.3 million in funding towards the first phase of this project, which includes the refurbishment of the existing building at the Oonoonba precinct.

An additional $30,000 will be provided towards the cost of developing a service model for the defence hub.

Around 26 full-time equivalent jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase.

The early works tender closes on Friday 13 December.

Interested local builders can apply through QBuild’s Townsville office using eTender.
