New car park on the way for Logan Hospital

Logan Hospital will get a new an eight-level car park for patients, visitors and staff thanks to a $61.92 million investment announced by the Palaszczuk Government today.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said the multi-level car park at Logan Hospital would have 1506 undercover parking spaces to provide safe and secure parking for patients, visitors and staff.

“We know the last thing our patients need during a visit to hospital is the added stress of searching for a car park,” Minister Miles said.

“This project will significantly boost the number of car parks ahead of the $460 million Logan Hospital Expansion which will increase the capacity of the hospital by almost half.

“Construction of the car park will support up to 150 construction jobs and when complete, there will be more than 2000 car parks available on or adjacent to the hospital for patients, visitors and staff.

“This is part of our Government’s commitment to providing the best possible healthcare no matter where you live in Queensland.”

Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman said the car park design included a covered pedestrian bridge linking to the main hospital building, as well as enhanced safety and security features.

“The safety of hospital staff and patients is our number one priority. The new car park will feature safe walking routes, lighting, CCTV and duress points on each level to enhance security.

“The project will also increase safety by reducing the need to park off-site, particularly for staff working into the later hours.”

Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said additional car parks would ensure the hospital could meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

“Logan Hospital is situated in one of Queensland’s largest growth corridors, so our demand for healthcare services continues to grow,” Mr Dick said.

“That’s why we’ve made such a significant investment to deliver one of our state’s largest ever hospital expansion projects right here in Logan.”

Member for Logan Linus Power said construction of the $9 million rapid-expansion medical ward was almost complete.

“In October we saw the locally built new rapid-expansion medical ward craned into place at Logan Hospital. Local tradies and apprentices have worked hard to finish construction ahead of schedule, so it can now be fitted out and ready for patients in early 2020,” Mr Power said.

“This new ward will have 28 beds and will create 73 new full-time health jobs.”

Member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said the Palaszczuk government was making a record investment in Logan Hospital.

“The $460 million major expansion will see an additional 206 beds and treatment spaces added to the hospital, which is great news for our growing community,” Ms McMahon said.

“Once the Logan Hospital expansion project is completed, the hospital will have four endoscopy suites and around 650 beds through the whole facility.

“And now we will also have a multi-story car park fitting for a newly expanded hospital.”

The tender process for design and construction of the new multi-level car park project will commence next week. Construction is expected to commence in mid-2020 for a late 2021 opening.
