JOINT STATEMENT

Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence
The Honourable Di Farmer

Queensland’s business and community sectors will present a united front against domestic and family violence later this month at the Palaszczuk Government’s Not Now, Not Ever. Together Breakfast.

One month on from the delivery of all 140 recommendations of the landmark Not Now, Not Ever report, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the event would encourage organisations outside Government to commit to actions and spread a message of zero tolerance for violence and abuse.

“We’ve brought the issue out behind closed doors, committed a record $328.9 million on actions and we’re leading the nation in our fight to end domestic and family violence,” the Premier said.

“Although significant progress has been made since 2015, we recognise domestic and family violence continues to be a pervasive issue in Queensland and there is much work still to do.

“Our Not Now, Not Ever. Together initiative is shedding light on the path forward, promoting the need for inclusive partnerships and grassroots action to deliver lasting change.

“The breakfast will mark the beginning of a new chapter in our reform agenda, acknowledging the importance of corporate and community-led responses and I encourage people to come along and be part of the solution.”

Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence Di Farmer said she was looking forward to hearing positive action out of the breakfast.

“Guided by our 10-year Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Strategy and with oversight from the Domestic and Family Violence Implementation Council, the Palaszczuk Government has introduced laws, initiatives and infrastructure to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence,” Minister Farmer said.

"It's encouraging to see the growing awareness and action within the corporate and community sectors to address domestic and family violence, and I look forward to seeing this continue.

"These sectors have an immense ability to reach everyday Queenslanders and drive real change.

“I look forward to sharing our nation-leading efforts to end domestic and family violence, highlighting the actions identified in our Strategy’s Third Action Plan 2019-20 to 2021-22.”

Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Plaza Ballroom, attendees will hear from business, industry and community leaders as they reflect on domestic and family violence awareness and prevention in the workplace.

ABC News Queensland journalist Matt Wordsworth will MC the event and lead a panel discussion featuring AFL Queensland CEO Dean Warren, Mayor of Mackay Regional Council, Cr Greg Williamson and Rio Tinto Chief Advisor – Social and Stakeholder Engagement Rachel Durdin.

Proceeds raised with the sale of tickets will benefit the work of DVConnect and R4Respect – two Queensland organisations providing early education and support to those affected by domestic, family and sexual violence.
