The Morrison Government needs to urgently reverse Redland Hospital cuts

Queensland Health Minister Steven Miles has called on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to bring an end to years of cuts to the Redland Hospital.

"Today, Scott Morrison and Andrew Laming need to commit to reversing the $52.7 million in cuts to Metro South and Redland Hospital." Minister Miles said.

"Unfortunately, what we've seen so far is Andrew Laming failing to stand up to Scott Morrison and Greg Hunt to advocate for the Redland Hospital.

"Instead of fighting for more funding for his hospital, Andrew Laming has handpicked dodgy figures that don't tell the true story to hide the fact the Morrison Government have failed Redlands residents."

Member for Redlands Kim Richards said the Palaszczuk Government had increased funding every year since being elected in 2015.

"In stark contrast to the Liberals, the Palaszczuk Government is delivering a record $2.408 billion in 2018-19 for Metro South, a $93 million increase," She said.

"We've increased funding year-on-year since coming to government.

"This funding includes $1.73 million to expand Redland Hospital's Emergency Department and upgrade Maternity Services.

"This means four new beds to keep up with demand as well as a water birthing suite."

Member for Capalaba Don Brown said the Redland Bay community deserved better than the Morrison Government's harsh cuts to healthcare.

"Today I'm calling on Andrew Laming to stand up to his mates and fully reverse these cuts which are having a real impact on our ability to treat people properly," he said.

"Queenslanders deserve better than this, especially our hardworking healthcare staff who are being left behind by this Federal Government."

The Morrison Government has cut a total of $316.1 million from Queensland Hospitals.
