Spotlight on the Sunshine Coast for Governing from the Regions

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced she will bring her cabinet to the Sunshine Coast next month as part of the Governing from the Regions program.

The Premier said Governing from the Regions would be held on the Sunshine Coast from Monday 4 February.

“The Sunshine Coast is one of the largest regional economies in Australia and is booming in terms of population growth and new investment to support the growing community,” the Premier said.

“It’s also one of the most beautiful parts of the state to live and visit with strong tourism attractions and events.

“Governing from the Regions program is a wonderful opportunity for myself and my Ministers to spend some time on the coast speaking directly with locals and to share our vision for the future of jobs and growth in the region.

“There’s plenty to talk about in terms of investment projects planned and delivered and how locals will benefit but I’m also keen to listen to any issues residents may have.

“It not only broadens our understanding of local issues but delivers genuine outcomes for our regional communities.”

Sunshine Coast Council recently reported optimism on the coast was strong going into 2019, business confidence was high and employment growth was outstripping the state average.

Sunshine Coast Business Council Chair Sandy Zubrinich also recently said: “There is a lot happening here in terms of infrastructure investment, and generally as a region we are performing pretty well.” (Sunshine Coast Daily 13 September, 2018)

“I echo both of the councils’ sentiments, it’s an exciting time to live on the Sunshine Coast,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“This is in no small part due to my government’s commitment to deliver for the region which includes funding for hospitals, roads projects and schools – all of which creates jobs.

“Last year we successfully governed from Ipswich, Mackay and the Whitsundays and Toowoomba and the Darling Downs region and we have not simply listened to the people’s suggestions – we have acted on them.”

Governing from the Regions has been held in a number of regional centres in recent years, including Wide Bay, Gold Coast, Cairns and Rockhampton.
