Test match tickets for blacked out Big Bash fans

Last night’s Big Bash ticket holders will be offered free entry to any day of next week’s Australia-Sri Lanka test match after a power outage outside the Gabba cut short the game between the Heat and the Thunder.

Acting Premier Cameron Dick said the government shared the disappointment of fans and players, and apologised for the power outage and any inconvenience caused.

“Action is being taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again, and that fans get something back,” he said.

Cricket Australia has agreed to the government’s request to give last night’s patrons free entry to any day of next week’s day-night test which runs from Thursday January 24th to Monday January 28th.

Energex says the Gabba lost power for an hour during which time it was decided to abandon the Big Bash match.

Crews are repairing an underground cable in Stanley Street that was the cause of the outage.

“The Heat would no doubt have recovered from its early innings score to chase down the Sydney Thunder total, so last night’s interruption was frustrating for everyone involved,” the Acting Premier said.

“But the good news now is that cricket fans will now have the opportunity to see Australia v Sri Lanka in this summer’s only day-night test match.”

Mr Dick said Energex would have stand by crews on site at the Gabba for the test and for the next Big Bash match to ensure a rapid response if needed.
