November numbers up for public transport

The latest public transport passenger data in south east Queensland recorded more than 15 million trips in November 2018.

Acting Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Ryan said the numbers showed public transport patronage was continuing to climb after a record 2017-18.

“The 2017-18 financial year had 182 million passenger trips on public transport across the region, the most on record,” Mr Ryan said.

“It’s pleasing to see that positive trend continue into the current financial year.

“Passenger trips for November 2018 were 15.31 million, compared with 14.49 million for the same period in 2017.

“That’s an increase of 815,281 trips or 5.6 per cent.”

Mr Ryan said NGR trains would also be included in a new on-time running performance measure from 1 January, to recognise the increasing number of the new trains coming into service.

“NGR faults, and other force majeure incidents such as storms or bushfires, have always been captured in QR’s customer impact data published online.

“However, the Palaszczuk Government made a commitment in late 2018 to improve reporting as the NGR fleet comes to represent for a higher proportion of south-east Queensland’s rollingstock.”
