Inner City South State Secondary College taking shape

Inner City South State Secondary College is starting to take shape, with the school’s proposed catchment and enrolment management plan released today and a new property secured.

Education Minister Grace Grace and Member for South Brisbane and Deputy Premier Jackie Trad today unveiled the proposed enrolment documents at a newly purchased site in Dutton Park.

“This is another key milestone in the development of this exciting project,” Ms Grace said.

“The Palaszczuk Government has secured additional land on Gladstone Road near the existing Knowledge Precinct at Dutton Park.

“The site is currently used by MS Queensland, who will be relocating to new premises.

“The newly acquired site will be the main building platform for the new school and provides greater access to green space – a key theme raised during the community consultation process.

“This land also offers a clear line of site to the new school’s tertiary education partner, the University of Queensland, which is just across the river via the Eleanor Schonell Bridge.”

Ms Grace said the proposed catchment map and School Enrolment Management Plan (School EMP) is now available on the project website and open to community feedback.

“The proposed catchment has been created using an equidistant boundary between it and its neighbouring state high schools – the same process that applies for other schools across Queensland,” she said.

“The proposed School EMP prioritises in-catchment students and gives existing Brisbane State High School catchment students the opportunity to apply for enrolment at the new school.

“This not only gives local families choice, but also takes the pressure off Brisbane State High School.”

Member for South Brisbane and Deputy Premier, Jackie Trad, said she was excited for local families to have their say on the inner south’s first school in almost 60 years.

“We heard loud and clear during the consultation phase earlier this year that catchments and enrolment policies were critical issues for local families. That’s why we’re now seeking the views and feedback of school communities on the proposed catchment for the new school’ Ms Trad said.

“This is a unique opportunity to establish a school in a way that we’ve never seen before; shaped by local insight and expertise.

“I encourage the community to once again engage wholeheartedly in this next phase of the school’s formation.”

The proposed catchment will take in Dutton Park and parts of Greenslopes, Buranda and Woolloongabba.

Feedback on the draft enrolment management approach is now open, closing on Sunday 30 September. Feedback can be provided on the Department’s website here.
