Young people from across Queensland who are interested in representing their peers and shaping Queensland’s future can apply now to be a member of the new Queensland Youth Engagement Panel (QYEP).

Minister for Youth Di Farmer said applications were open for the QYEP, offering 16 to 25- year-olds the opportunity to be speak up for their generation and influence government and policy development.

“Young people have told us they want to have input on Government policy that impacts them and the QYEP is one of a range of engagement opportunities for them to get involved,” Ms Farmer said.

“I’m excited to bring together young people from across the state who are motivated to make positive change.

“The panel will be reporting to me and it will be helpful for me to receive their advocacy on a range of issues that are important to young people.

“These young Queenslanders will have networks that we can tap into to ensure that the voices of young people are heard as we deliver on the Our Future State plan and realise the commitments in the Queensland Youth Strategy.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to build their leadership skills and learn about influencing change. I strongly encourage them to put their hands up and apply.”

QYEP is delivered by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women as a key action of the Queensland Youth Strategy. The panel will play a key role in the Queensland Youth Week and the development of the Queensland Youth Engagement Charter.

There will be up to 14 places on the panel. Applications are now open and will close on 15 October 2018.

As part of their application, youth are being encouraged to put their digital creativity on display by filming a video up to two minutes about what they can bring to the panel.
