    Burleigh Oceanview walking track reopens

Burleigh Head National Park Oceanview walking track on the Gold Coast has reopened to the public today.

Minister for Environment Leeanne Enoch said the reopening comes after engineers, engaged by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS), restored the tracks following recent rock falls.

“The reopening is wonderful news for local walkers and visitors who frequent the 1.2km trail,” Ms Enoch said.

“The track is very popular with more than half a million visitors every year and has panoramic views of the ocean, stunning sunrises and is one of the best vantage points for whale watching on the coast.

“I’m sure the Member for Burleigh will be grateful for the hard work of our Government in getting this track reopened while he was travelling overseas. While he was in Canada our QPWS officers were working hard to restore the track.”

Minster Enoch said following rock falls, QPWS engaged geotechnical engineers to assess the areas impacted and restore the track.

“The track has been given the all clear, however we urge all visitors to continue to observe safety signage and barriers in the park.”

Ms Enoch said longer term risk management options, such as rock fall barriers, were being investigated in more detail, to reduce periodic closures.

The track may close from time to time following severe weather events but walkers can still access the Burleigh Head National Park, through the Rainforest Circuit or beach access points.
