TransLink customers to have bloomin’ good time

The Palaszczuk Government is making sure visitors to Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers can move around the Garden City with ease, offering free transport through Translink during the busiest period.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the festival was one of Queensland’s most significant cultural events and last year more than 255,000 people attended.

“Some of the Carnival’s major events, including the street parade and Food and Wine Festival, will run on the weekend of 22-23 September,” Mr Bailey said.

“To help reduce traffic congestion around the Toowoomba CBD, we are working with Carnival of Flowers organisers and Toowoomba Regional Council to provide temporary park ‘n’ ride facilities and run buses on a continual loop from the parking facilities.

“Parking locations will be at the Toowoomba Touch Association fields at Kearneys Spring and at Picnic Point. Buses will run on a continuous 30-minute loop from those locations to Queens Park.”

Mr Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to play its part in making sure there were no thorns in this year’s Carnival of Flowers.

“The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is an iconic event on Queensland’s calendar,” he said.

“The event brings a lot of visitors to the city, particularly during the first weekend. We will play our part in making sure visitors to Toowoomba have access to safe, reliable passenger transport.

“Offering the parking and bus services is one way we can work with Toowoomba Regional Council and the event organisers to help the Carnival of Flowers remain a successful event.”

Buses will run on a loop between 9.30am to 10.45pm on Saturday 22 September and from 9.30am to 9.45pm on Sunday 23 September.

The bus services on the loop will be free. Various tours will be held throughout the 10 days of the carnival. More information can be found at the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers website.

The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers won gold at the Australian Tourism Awards in Darwin in 2017.
