Palaszczuk Government welcomes Bill Shorten’s roads announcement

The Palaszczuk Government has today welcomed the announcement that a Shorten Labor Government will invest $500 million to deliver a staged upgrade of Queensland’s inland road network.

In welcoming the move, Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government was looking forward to Queensland getting a fair go with the commitment of 3000 kilometres of roads.

“This announcement shows that Bill Shorten will give Queenslanders a fair go,” Mr Bailey said.

“I welcome any plan that has the interests of regional Queensland in mind.

“Bill’s plan is to get the arteries of regional and rural Queensland pumping again.

“This plan will make it easier for farmers to move cattle and for tourists to visit Queensland.

“It emphasises Labor’s commitment, whether that be federally or at a state-level, on delivering for regional Queenslanders.”

Federal Labor estimates this project will create over 13,000 direct and indirect jobs in Queensland over the next decade, along with an additional $2.5 billion economic boost to the regional Queensland economy.

“Jobs for Queensland is what the Palaszczuk Government is focussed on, and this announcement looks to do just that,” Mr Bailey said.

"The Federal LNP Government have had five years to give Queensland fair infrastructure funding and they’ve failed. Well done Bill Shorten for backing Queensland."
