Nine more finalists head to training awards gala

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman today announced the final group of Queensland Training Awards finalists who are in the running to be named the state’s best in the large and small training provider categories and the Premier’s Industry Collaboration Award.

“I’m happy to announce that these nine worthy finalists will join the 76 regional winners at the Queensland Training Awards State Gala Dinner on 8 September,” Ms Fentiman said.

“I cannot emphasise enough how vital the role our training providers play in a strong and vibrant training sector.

“Nor can I overstate the value the Palaszczuk Government places on encouraging our training and industry sectors to work together.

“This year’s Premier’s Industry Collaboration Award finalists are working in health, engineering and hospitality and tourism sectors.

“One of the Small Training Provider of the Year finalists, Access Training and Education, delivers specialised training for the benefit of deaf and hard of hearing people.

“They will be up against The Institute of Culinary Excellence and Simple Solutions Training and Consulting.

“In the Large Training Provider of the Year category, TAFE Queensland will be defending the title they have won for the past three years, with CQUniversity Australia and Australian Trade Training College also being recognised for their great work.”

Ms Fentiman said that in the past month, finalists from seven Queensland regions had come together to recognise and celebrate the best individuals and organisations in the state’s training sector.

“The Queensland Training Awards shine a spotlight on some fantastic people, committed employers and training providers, and innovative training initiatives and collaborations that demonstrate the great results vocational education and training (VET) is achieving.

“The awards also highlight the many career paths and industries the training sector supports.

“Finalists in the headline categories of Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year and Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year excelled in their studies, ranging from business, civil construction, carpentry, hospitality, cookery and hairdressing, to telecommunications, engineering, early childhood education and care, and horticulture.

“Honouring our best apprentices, trainees and vocational students will help draw more people to these training pathways.

“Similarly recognising our best trainers, training and community organisations, employers and partnerships encourages all of us to see the value VET brings to communities, as well as our state economy.

“Congratulations to all of the finalists and I look forward to seeing you in Brisbane next month.”
