Queenslanders are encouraged to apply for TAFE Queensland scholarships before applications close this week.

Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman said the scholarships are available to support study of a wide range of qualifications from semester one, 2019 by providing up to $5000 to help cover the costs of study such as course fees, text books and living expenses.

“These scholarships are a fantastic opportunity for students to supercharge their studies and help chase down their dream job” Ms Fentiman said

“Opportunities are available to help students pursue their passions here in Queensland”

“TAFE Queensland provides world class training and has a proven track record with 85% of graduates getting a job or going onto further study and it’s wonderful to see 94% employer satisfaction.”

“Financial support like this is invaluable when you’re starting down the path of a new and exciting career. If you’re looking to start or change your career I encourage you to apply.”

Gold Coast local and scholarship recipient Amira Talbot and fellow musician Naomi Grashuis have recently released their first single “If I May” and her career is going from strength to strength.

“My TAFE Queensland teachers have really helped me in developing my knowledge in the theoretical side of music, from chord structure to understanding arrangements in music. In addition, they have helped my musicianship in the instruments I can now play too,” she said.

Amira has always been passionate about music and drama. After moving from Sydney in Year 12 she had to make a choice between her two favourite subjects. With her love of musical theatre, she dropped music and continued with drama.

“My ultimate goal is to be able to pursue music solely and be able to do so financially,” said Amira, who has taken the first steps in her chosen career.

This year, TAFE Queensland has once again worked with the Palaszczuk Government to offer the Advance Queensland – TAFE Queensland Pathways Scholarships program.

The program is a two-year $300,000 initiative designed to encourage students to complete both a TAFE Queensland qualification and university study in STEM-related careers including nursing, engineering, science, and technology.

TAFE Queensland Acting CEO Sue Davis said that vocational education and training could be exceptionally powerful at helping people change their lives, and to help them achieve extraordinary things.

“We are very proud of our scholarships program and what it has achieved so far.

“This year, we are honoured to also be able to offer the TAFE Queensland – Professor Jimmy Choo OBE Fashion Scholarship. The Scholarship is $5000, which will support a fashion student with their studies at TAFE Queensland in semester 1, 2019,” said Ms Davis.

Professor Jimmy Choo OBE is one of the most celebrated and recognisable names in fashion globally and fell in love with Queensland after partnering with TAFE Queensland to host a series of technical training workshops and fashion industry events in Brisbane last year.

Applications close on August 31. For more information on TAFE Queensland Scholarship Program visit: scholarships.tafeqld.edu.au.
