Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services
The Honourable Steven Miles

Queensland Health will launch an online fact checker to debunk misconceptions surrounding the termination of pregnancy.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said a number of claims had been circulating the community and the new fact checker would help Queenslanders to set the record straight.

“The termination of pregnancy is a health issue and we want Queenslanders to have the facts – just like any other medical procedure,” Mr Miles said.

“There are myths and misconception surrounding termination and I think it’s important to address them.

“I know there are varied points of view on this issue, I know that some people feel very strongly about abortion.

“But there is no excuse for using lies to justify your position.

“It’s important that Queenslanders know the truth, which is why we are launching the online Fact Checker as a central location for them to find the answers.”

Minister Miles said the Fact Checker would help Queenslanders form an educated opinion on termination and a greater understanding of why it should be made a health issue.

The Queensland Government will introduce new termination legislation to Parliament today.

The legislation to remove abortion from the criminal code and instead enshrine current clinical practice in a new health framework.
