Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones has today revealed the government will partner with the local tourism industry to launch a $2.5 million tourism campaign to capitalise on the successful 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The campaign – a partnership between Tourism and Events Queensland, Destination Gold Coast and industry – will promote the Gold Coast as the ultimate family-friendly destination in the key markets of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and New Zealand.

Minister for Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones said the campaign was designed to continue the momentum generated by the largest event in Queensland’s history.

“The Commonwealth Games showcased the Gold Coast to the world and now we must ensure we continue to leverage that interest to secure long-term benefits for Queensland,” Ms Jones said.

“This campaign will be targeted at our key visitor markets, using all forms of media, in order to generate higher visitation to the Gold Coast and further boost the economy.

“The campaign creative will be led by Tourism and Events Queensland in close partnership with Destination Gold Coast, highlighting the huge array of unique tourism experiences on offer on the Gold Coast.

“Already this year we’ve seen TEQ lead the extremely successful “Find your perfect next…” campaign which has reached more than half of all Australians and is generating increased interest in visiting Queensland.

“This campaign will build on that, promoting the Gold Coast as the ultimate family destination by highlighting its beautiful beaches, lush hinterland, the iconic theme parks and the thriving food and wine scene.

“We’ve always said we would work hard to ensure the benefits of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games would be felt for years to come and this campaign is just another example of how we are delivering on that commitment.”

“The Palaszczuk Government has invested more in the Gold Coast than any other government in history,” she said.

“This is just more proof of our commitment to growing the tourism industry on the Gold Coast.”

Destination Gold Coast CEO Annaliese Battista welcomed the State Government announcement.

“This is a prime moment to really promote the Gold Coast into the southern markets of Sydney and Melbourne in particular.

“This campaign will help maintain the momentum we have as a destination after the Commonwealth Games.

“It is also so encouraging to see the lead tourism bodies, industry, state and local governments all working together to make this happen.

“The campaign will target families wanting a great holiday on the Gold Coast, enjoying our beaches, waterways, theme parks, wildlife, hinterland and more.”
