Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey

Mackay and Hay Point residents have been invited to apply for a seat on North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) community reference groups (CRGs).

Six positions, including three community representatives, one local Marina resident and two recreational group (boating, surfing or fishing) representatives, are available on the Port of Mackay CRG.

Seven positions are available for community representatives and interest group representatives on the Port of Hay Point CRG.

Member for Mackay Julieanne Gilbert said the CRGs, which have been running for almost 20 years, provided an invaluable link between the port authority and its communities.

“The CRGs provide a forum for NQBP and community members to discuss and raise issues of relevance and mutual interest relating to port operations and development,” Mrs Gilbert said.

“I encourage locals to apply and get involved in the future of our port – it is such an important part of our community so it’s only natural residents should have a say.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said CRGs gave residents a voice through effective, two-way engagement.

“This is a way for locals to have direct contact with an organisation that impacts their lives on a daily basis,” Mr Bailey said.

“The ports are clearly booming.

“Hay Point recorded a 13% in throughput during the last financial year while the Port of Mackay also recorded a 3% increase to exceed three million tonnes of throughput for only the third time in its history.

“The community is a key strategy stakeholder for our ports, so their input is vital.”

Acting CEO Brendan Webb said the Mackay and Hay Point communities were integral part of NQBP ports.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in regularly engaging with NQBP to apply for a position,” Mr Webb said.

The CRGs will also include a range of other representatives - from Mackay Regional Council, local businesses and the port industry to community and environment representatives and recreational users, including indigenous and youth representatives.

To apply, read the terms of reference and complete the nomination form at www.nqbp.com.au or in hardcopy from NQBP Office Level 1, Waterfront Place, Mulherin Drive, Mackay Harbour.

Nominations close 5pm Friday 24 August 2018. For more information please email communications@nqbp.com.au.
