Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has thanked Queensland Under Treasurer Jim Murphy as he returns to New South Wales to take up new career opportunities.

“Mr Murphy is one of the most distinguished and respected government leaders and has provided outstanding leadership to Queensland Treasury,” the Premier said.

“His economic and financial management skills have seen four successive state budgets delivered for Queensland.

“An experienced hand in senior policy, Mr Murphy has been instrumental in guiding Queensland’s economic transition post the mining boom and my government’s response to multiple natural disasters across the state.”

Ms Palaszczuk said that in taking up the role of Under Treasurer, Mr Murphy moved away from his New South Wales-based family with the intention of eventually moving back.

His previous roles include as an executive with ANZ Bank, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, a Deputy Secretary in the Federal Treasury and adviser to the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

Mr Murphy was one of the first appointees of the government’s merit-based appointment process in 2015.

Mr Murphy will leave in mid-September and former Deputy Under Treasurer Mary-Anne Curtis will act in the role from then while a recruitment process is undertaken.
