Safety works across North West Queensland

Safety works under the Safer Roads Sooner (SRS) Program are now complete at two intersections in Mount Isa.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the safety of all road users was the number one priority.

“My department has completed two Queensland Government SRS projects within the past month, to improve safety of all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists,” Mr. Bailey said.

“The intersections along the Barkly Highway with West and Miles Streets, as well as the intersection with Milne Bay and May Downs Roads are just the start of safety works to be undertaken this year.

“Preliminary works were completed at the intersection of West and Miles Streets to pave the way for a larger scope of work, which is expected to start this month (July).

“Works at the intersection of Milne Bay and May Downs Roads are completed and included installation of traffic signals and pedestrian push buttons.

“The SRS Program aims to improve the safety of state-controlled roads at potentially high-risk crash sites through implementing high-benefit, cost-effective treatments.”

“Collectively, between the SRS Program and the jointly Australian and Queensland Government funded Northern Australia Roads Program, we will deliver safety improvements to more than 25 intersections across Mount Isa.”

Mr Bailey thanked motorists and the local community for their patience during these important works.
