Emergency service personnel recognised at Brisbane medal presentation

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) personnel have been recognised for their excellence at today’s (Monday) Brisbane Employment Location Medals Presentation.

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford presented the Commissioner’s Distinguished Service Medal to Deputy Commissioner Doug Smith, and the Commissioner’s Meritorious Service Award to Station Officer, Ron Watkins.

“The Commissioner’s Distinguished Service Medal recognises an individual’s outstanding actions in relation to fire service duties and administrative leadership or distinguished performance, of a specific or difficult project or task, not involving bravery,” Mr Crawford said.

“The Commissioner’s Meritorious Service Award recognises an individual’s outstanding service in a designated role or function to an exceptional level.

“An additional 31 QFES Medals and Clasps and Diligent and Ethical Service Medals (DESM) and Clasps were awarded to recognise staff and volunteers on their exceptional contribution to emergency services in Queensland.

“Members of the QFES workforce have been celebrated today for demonstrating courage, passion, skill and professionalism in protecting Queenslanders across the state.

“All medal recipients have gone above and beyond what is expected of them and have displayed dedication and excellence in their work.

“It is fantastic to see their efforts recognised and I congratulate them all on their achievements,” Mr Crawford said.

QFES Commissioner Katarina Carroll said today’s recipients had dedicated their lives to serving and protecting Queenslanders.

“The QFES Medals and DESM Clasps acknowledge staff and volunteers who have distinguished themselves over a prolonged period of time through their commitment to ethical standards, diligence and integrity,” Ms Carroll said.

“All recipients continue to push themselves and their colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for their communities and in doing so, have been recognised for their outstanding work.”
