Queensland jobs growth on the up

The Palaszczuk Government’s efforts to grow jobs continues to deliver with 3,900 Queenslanders finding work in June.

Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said that today’s ABS Labour Force data demonstrated the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to delivering jobs across the state.

“Today’s data shows that in the past month we have created another 3,900 jobs across our state,” Ms Trad said.

“All up that’s more than 162,000 Queenslanders who have gotten a job since the election of the Palaszczuk Government.  

“These aren’t just numbers, they are people, they are Queenslanders who have found a place in our economy.

“The ABS data confirms this with our jobs growth over the year sitting at 3%, above our Budget forecast of 2¾%. 

“The trend unemployment rate is stable at 6.1%, while the seasonally adjusted rate fell to 5.9%, down .3% from last month.

“We are continuing to see the unemployment rate stabilise and recover following the highs of 6.7% under the Newman Government.

“These great results are reflected in NAB’s Quarterly Business Survey results, also released today, which show that Queensland has the equal best business conditions in the country and the second highest business confidence.  

“These great results come off the back of our recent infrastructure and jobs focused State Budget.”

Employment Minister Shannon Fentiman said that more businesses were feeling confident in taking on employees as more people entered the labour market.

“We know that more people are feeling confident about the economy and are making the choice to get back into the work force,” Ms Fentiman said.

“Just yesterday, I announced our new round of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, which has already helped tens of thousands of Queenslanders to get the skills they need for the jobs they want.

“Through programs like this, we are setting Queensland workers and businesses up for the future.”
