The Honourable Mark Bailey

Designs are progressing on the $25 million upgrade to the M1’s Exit 57 (Oxenford) interchange.

Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said GHD had been awarded the tender to deliver a preferred design for the busy exit.

“The Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to Queenslanders was to prioritise M1 upgrades to make it at least six lanes wide from Brisbane to the New South Wales border,” Ms Scanlon said

“This year's Budget delivers four much needed M1 upgrades supported by $2.3 billion in joint funding.

“Two major upgrades are already under way - between Mudgeeraba and Varsity Lakes as well as the M1/M3 merge - and two more will follow immediately after.

“We’re getting on with the job of improving interchanges too through our plan to upgrade exits 38, 41, 45 and 49 on the northern end of the Gold Coast.”

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Exit 57 upgrade would increase capacity for traffic entering the interchange from the M1 and protect motorists by reducing queue lengths on the highway’s hard shoulder.

“The Exit 57 interchange upgrade is an important piece of our long-term strategy to improve the M1,” Mr Bailey said.

“Since the interchange opened 20 years ago, Oxenford and the surrounding suburbs have experienced exponential growth.

“This is just the beginning of the delivery process, with detailed design expected to take about 12 months.

“The preferred design will include improvements for eastbound and westbound traffic movements too.

“The design will be complex as there are many movements and surrounding intersections to consider.”

The Exit 57 project will support an average of 75 direct jobs over the life of the project and is expected to start construction in early 2020.
