New Faces for Community Grants Committee

A new committee has been appointed to provide advice on applications for the state’s largest one-off grants program, which distributes approximately $54 million per year to not-for-profit community groups. 

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath said the incoming Gambling Community Benefit Committee would provide advice on how to distribute Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) grants to community organisations. 

“We are happy to appoint the 12 new members for a five-year term to the Gambling Community Benefit Committee,” Mrs D’Ath said. 

“The independent committee includes representatives with relevant experience, knowledge and skills, and also reflects the diversity of the Queensland community. 

“These members play a vital role in assessing the suitability of applications in a fair and equitable manner, collectively assisting to best direct funds to maximise community benefit.” 

Since the implementation of the GCBF in 1994, the Queensland Government has been supporting not-for-profit organisations by fuelling the delivery of key services and infrastructure throughout regional and metropolitan Queensland. 

The fund allows a broad range of community organisations to enhance their capacity to provide services, leisure activities and opportunities for Queensland communities. 

Mrs D’Ath said applications, via an expression of interest, were now open for the GCBF’s Commemorative Grants, totalling up to $1.25 million, to celebrate the fund’s 25th anniversary in 2019. 

“I was pleased to recently announce a celebratory round of grants on offer from the GCBF - 10 grants up to $100,000, and one grant up to $250,000, for eligible not-for-profits,” she said. 

“I encourage community groups across all sectors to apply for funding.   

“Expressions of interest for these grants are now open until 31 August.” 

The Commemorative Grants are offered in addition to the ongoing quarterly funding rounds, which provide up to $35,000 per successful application.  

Community groups have until midnight, 31 August 2018, to submit their expression of interest applications.
