$1 million in grant funding available for education research

A $1 million Queensland grant scheme for research projects on early childhood and school education is now open for 2018 applications.

Education Minister Grace Grace said the Education Horizon grants reflected the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to providing Queensland students with a world-class education.

“The Education Horizon grants provide up to $100,000 in funding for researchers to carry out important education studies,” Ms Grace said.

“We’re looking for researchers who can support effective, evidence-based programs and services in early childhood education and care and schooling.

“We also want to direct funding to research that will result in positive change in classrooms throughout the state.”

Ms Grace said the research grants funded high-quality local research that aligned with the Palaszczuk Government’s education priorities.

“This year’s grants program supports the delivery of Our Future State: Advancing Queensland’s Priorities, which were announced by the Premier last week,” she said.

“This program will encourage researchers to work directly with our teachers and educators to deliver the best learning environments to give our children a great start, as well as creating job growth and a strong economy.”

Ms Grace said Queensland researchers with a Queensland-based sponsor organisation were eligible to apply.

Last year’s funded projects were spread between researchers at the University of Queensland, the Queensland University of Technology, Central Queensland University, Griffith University and TAFE Queensland.

Applications for the 2018 Education Horizon Grants will close on 31 July 2018.
