The Honourable Mark Bailey
A Sunshine Coast family business specialising in pontoon and boardwalks has cemented its position as leaders in the boating infrastructure market.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Queensland was home to more than 85 public floating walkways and pontoons thanks to experts such as The Jetty Specialist.
"This family-run business has been delivering high-quality boating infrastructure in Queensland for more than 32 years," Mr Bailey said during a visit to the company’s Sunshine Coast headquarters today.
"Supporting more than 50 staff, the company consistently and successfully tenders for a wide range of boating infrastructure projects up and down the Queensland coast.
"Neil Morris and his two sons, Jacob and Dane, deliver quality and reliable products.’’
The team has recently delivered floating walkways for:
- Fisherman’s Road (Maroochydore)
- Packers Camp (Cairns)
- River Street (Mackay)
- Mackay Marina (Mackay)
- Fernley Street (Cairns)
- Pelican Park (Clontarf)
They have also recently delivered gangway access pontoons at:
- Penny Lane (Mooloolaba)
- Hamilton (Brisbane River)
- Manly Boat Harbour (Manly)
Mr Bailey said the team was currently delivering two floating walkways as part of projects underway in Edmonton, Cairns in Far North Queensland and in Gympie at Bullock Point.
‘‘Projects such as these ensure we are supporting local companies and in turn, ensuring we keep delivering more jobs for Queenslanders,’’ Mr Bailey said.
"The team has an on-site workshop located right here in Caloundra where they fabricate aluminium and concrete pontoon components before they are transported to site.
"They then use their own fleet of piling barges and work boats to finish the build."
Neil Morris said many years of engineering and intellectual property had been the success behind the company.
"We at The Jetty Specialist strive to set the standard in the industry for product development and design performance,” he said.
“We have recently acquired a block of land, within the new industrial estate in Caloundra. We need to expand and will purpose build our new premises to double the size of what we currently occupy, ready for operation early 2019.
“This will allow the future of the business to grow under the leadership of my sons Dane and Jacob.
“It has been our honour to be an integral part in the development of the floating walkway and marine infrastructure delivery within in Queensland. As proud mariners our family loves making use of these facilities on weekends.”
Mr Bailey said with nearly 7,000 kilometres of beautiful coastline and outstanding islands dotted along our shores, it’s clear that Queenslanders love to get out on the water.
“Tourists come for our famous beaches and boaties and fishers are keen users of our marine infrastructure. That’s why we’ve given a funding boost to our Marine Infrastructure Fund to lure boaties and fishers to their favourite fishing spots,” he said.
“In this year’s budget we have extended the fund by committing $30 million over two years to continue the delivery of better boating facilities across the state. This will deliver new and improved boating facilities across Queensland right through until June 2020.
“The Palaszczuk Government works with people to get things done and we will be working with local government and communities, port and water authorities, and local businesses and contractors like the Jetty Specialist, to deliver new and improved recreational boating facilities throughout Queensland.”
