Work will begin on Pimpama’s new $3 million fire and rescue station under a funding commitment from the Palaszczuk Government’s record 2018-19 QFES Budget, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford announced today (Thursday).

Mr Crawford said the investment was part of the government’s record $702 million spend on Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) in 2018-19.

“Budget funding for QFES capital works projects delivers on the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to enhancing community safety, well into the future,” Mr Crawford said.

“It’s imperative QFES grows with the community so it can continue delivering excellent service.

“Building modern facilities – not only on the Gold Coast but across the state – means the community can feel at ease knowing our fire and emergency services are properly equipped and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.”

Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said the new station would assist the critical work of first responders, ensuring they have both the capacity and capability to support the region’s current population and expected growth.

“It’s vital frontline firefighters and volunteers have access to state-of-the-art equipment and infrastructure,” Ms Scanlon said.

“The Gold Coast is only one area to benefit from QFES’ operations being bolstered by the 2018-19 Budget. It’s great news for the local community, that funding has been committed to begin work on the new $3 million permanent fire and rescue station at Pimpama.”

Work is due to start early next year on the new station, which is expected to include an SES area office.

QFES South Eastern Region Assistant Commissioner Neil Reid said: “When the new station opens, this $3 million investment means our firefighters can maintain a first-class service to the Pimpama community.

“I am confident this station will enhance QFES’ operational capability and ensure we can continue to service the Pimpama community for years to come,” he said.
