New Inner City North State Secondary College one step closer

A major milestone has been reached for the delivery of the new Inner City North State Secondary College in Fortitude Valley.

Education Minister Grace Grace said Expressions of Interest had been called for the detailed designs to be completed and for construction to get underway.

“This new secondary school is a key part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to plan and deliver for Queensland’s future,” Ms Grace said.

“The new school, to be built on the corner of Brookes Street and St Pauls Terrace in Fortitude Valley, is absolutely crucial in addressing significant enrolment growth in the surrounding suburbs.

“This will be the first state high school to be built Brisbane’s inner city suburbs in more than 50 years. Not only that, it will be the first vertical state school to be delivered in Queensland.

“The school is part of our Government’s $808 million Building Future Schools Fund, along with the new secondary school planned for Brisbane’s inner city south.

“The call for Expressions of Interest for the Fortitude Valley high school marks an important milestone for this game-changing project.

“This will be a flagship, future-focused school, supported by excellence in teaching through a partnership with the Queensland University of Technology.

“The school will have creative and innovative learning spaces with cutting-edge design that meets contemporary educational needs for students in the inner city.”

Ms Grace said construction would get underway onsite before the end of 2018.

“I’m pleased to say the new school is on track to welcome its foundation Year 7 students in 2020,” she said.

“The Department has also started the recruitment process for the school’s foundation Principal, with applications recently closing.

“I look forward to working with the future Principal, who will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape this school from the ground up and create a signature learning institution for Queensland.

“I will be hosting a meeting for interested community members on Saturday 23 June from 2pm at the Holy Trinity Church in Fortitude Valley.

“I invite anyone with an interest in the project to come along to learn more.”

EOIs for the design and construction of the new school are open to eligible pre-qualified building suppliers only – i.e. those holding a PQC3 rating, or above, through the Queensland Government’s prequalification system.
