The Honourable Mark Bailey

Road safety improvements worth $642,000 have begun at the Sunshine Motorway off-ramp at Mooloolaba Road in Buderim.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said there had been a significant number of rear-end crashes reported at the location over the last few years.

“Motorists using this exit have a restricted view looking at westbound traffic while attempting to safely enter Mooloolaba Road and travel towards Buderim,” Mr Bailey said.

“Drivers have to look awkwardly over their right shoulder when trying to merge from the slip lane in order to get a clear view of westbound traffic.

“Unfortunately this sometimes causes motorists using the off-ramp to brake suddenly when they see vehicles travelling through the intersection at the last minute, which has resulted in several crashes.

“The proposed improvements will involve road widening so the off-ramp can be realigned to alleviate this problem.”

Mr Bailey said the project is funded under the State Government’s Targeted Road Safety program.

“This program aims to improve road safety and focuses on implementing high-benefit, cost-effective solutions to prevent crashes and incidents on Queensland roads,” he said.
