New trailers and flood boat to boost Gin Gin and Maryborough SES Groups

Gin Gin and Maryborough State Emergency Services (SES) Groups will today (Wednesday) be bolstered by new equipment worth more than $100,000.

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Craig Crawford will officially hand-over two new trailers, each worth nearly $18,000, and a $66,000 flood boat - funded through the SES Major Equipment Program at no cost to either group.

“Gin Gin and Maryborough SES members will each receive a partially enclosed Pantech trailer, better equipping them to provide essential rescue services to the community,” Mr Crawford said.

“The Gin Gin group will also receive a 4.6 metre Horizon flood boat with a 60 horsepower Mercury outboard motor.

“The new trailer and flood boat will allow SES members to respond quickly and transport specialised equipment when local communities require urgent assistance.

“SES volunteers dedicate a great deal of time and effort planning, preparing and responding to emergencies, and I’m delighted to see their capabilities enhanced with the addition of these new assets.”

Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said the new equipment will support the SES in what they do best – helping communities during extreme weather events.

“The new trailer will enable Maryborough SES volunteers to provide crucial services in their community when disasters and emergencies strike,” Mr Saunders said.

“Community members can feel reassured that their SES volunteers are best-equipped and ready to assist during times of need.”

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) SES Assistant Commissioner Peter Jeffrey said the new assets will enhance the delivery of vital emergency management services in the North Coast Region.

“Our SES volunteers dressed in orange are a welcome and comforting sight to Queensland residents,” Mr Jeffrey said.

“SES volunteers perform a wide range of functions including storm damage, land search, rescues, flood boats, traffic management and much more.

“These resources will help SES volunteers to protect and build resilience within Fraser Coast communities,” he said.
