Sunshine Coast SES receives vital new equipment to help during emergencies

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Craig Crawford today (Friday) presented Sunshine Coast State Emergency Services (SES) crews with new equipment under the $200,000 Energising Queensland SES Equipment Program.

Mr Crawford handed over vital equipment, including tactical response kits, Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs), water rescue dummies, stretchers and lighting.

“The $20,000 worth of equipment handed over today, is the third under a $200,000 resource injection for the state, delivered by SES Supporting Partners - Energy Queensland and Powerlink,” Mr Crawford said.

“This week we celebrate National Volunteer Week, and we’re saying thank you to local SES volunteers for the great work they do in keeping our communities safe with the delivery of this new equipment.

“Providing this type of valuable equipment to our dedicated SES groups means North Coast residents can feel at ease knowing their local SES are well-equipped and ready to assist when disasters or emergencies strike.”

Energy Queensland CEO David Smales said he was pleased to provide practical support to SES volunteers and the work they do during times of need.

“When severe weather and other disasters strike it’s always great to have people you can rely on and the best equipment to do the job,” Mr Smales said.

“Energex and Ergon crews always have nothing but praise for the SES volunteers they work with during emergency events.

“The crews know they can depend on the SES to understand jobs such as clearing debris from roads and properties along with other important tasks that help us get the power on faster.

“With this in mind, we are proud to be able to provide mutual support in the form of new equipment to assist them with the great work they do in community recovery events,” he said.

Mr Crawford said the men and women of the SES were passionate about assisting their local communities, and devoted a significant amount of time in helping Queenslanders during difficult times.

“The many hours they dedicate to protecting and building resilience in their communities, is highly valued and greatly appreciated by everyone," he said.
