Queensland appoints new Health Ombudsman

The Queensland Government has formally appointment Andrew Brown as Queensland’s new Health Ombudsman.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Steven Miles said Mr Brown, who had been acting in the role since November last year, would continue to play a critical role in ensuring Queensland’s health sector was transparent, accountable and fair.

“Mr Brown has an extensive understanding of the Queensland health system and a sound knowledge of professional, safe and appropriate health practices and performance standards,” Minister Miles said.

“He brings with him a long career in legal services, and has spent the last seven years working as Queensland’s Deputy Ombudsman.

“This is an important position that is responsible for managing health service complaints – both public and private, and in relation to both registered and unregistered practitioners.

“That includes investigating issues and, where necessary, taking immediate action to protect the public.

“I am confident Mr Brown will be effective in this role and I look forward to working with him in the future.”

Mr Brown will serve as Health Ombudsman for a term of three years, from 28 May 2018.
