Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Mark Bailey

Work will start on Monday (May 14th) to improve road safety on a 750 metre section of Bunya Mountains Road, about five kilometres north of the Burtons Well campground, west of Brisbane.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said two curves would be widened to provide additional space, making it easier for motorists to negotiate the bend.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to road safety as demonstrated by the $516,500 investment we have made in this project under the Safer Roads Sooner program,” Mr Bailey said.

“Safety barriers will be installed on Bunya Mountains Road to reduce the potential for errant vehicles to leave the road.

“Target board warning signs will also be installed at various locations to warn motorists about the bends and steepness of the road in both directions.

“The project will complement the safety works completed last year to remove trees close to the roadway.”

Mr Bailey said RoadTek would undertake the works from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with the project expected to be completed within a month, weather permitting.

“Motorists should observe all warning signs when approaching the road works and adapt their driving behaviour to the changed conditions,” he said.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and cooperation.”

The Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner program aims to address high- severity crash sites on the state-controlled road network.
