Albany Creek intersection works begin today

Traffic signals will be installed at the Old Northern Road intersection with Explorer Drive at Albany Creek to reduce crashes.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the $1.1 million safety works would address the growing trend of right-turn crashes.

“Controlling traffic movement with signals will significantly improve safety and flow at this increasingly busy intersection,” Mr Bailey said.

Mr Bailey said the Palaszczuk Government had responded to community calls for signal controlled right-turn movements between Explorer Drive and Old Northern Road.

“As well as better managing right turning vehicles, this upgrade will also extend the southbound right-turn lane on Old Northern Road to increase capacity for turning vehicles,” he said.

“New facilities for cyclists and pedestrians will also be delivered.

“The works include a dedicated northbound on-road cycle lane, pedestrian crossings on the western and northern legs of the intersection and a new footpath along the eastern side of Old Northern Road that will connect with these new crossings.”

Works have now begun and are expected to be completed within four months, weather permitting.

Priority access and entry through the work zone will be given to emergency vehicles.

The works will be delivered as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Targeted Road Safety Program.
